Participating in the Exhibition

Recently I helped WYPW set up their latest exhibition ‘Postkarte/Postcards From the Front’ during my two week work experience. It was quite an experience, as I not only learned what went into setting up an exhibition, but I also found out a tremendous amount about WW1 doing so. Seeing the different postcards and posters from the opposing countries, Germany and Britain, made me realize that both were not as different as they seem. Whilst they spoke different languages and lived in different countries, these postcards ran similar themes of propaganda, political satire, and also the yearning love for these soldiers, old and young, to return back home to their loved ones. It was also interesting to see how pupils from different schools interpreted this and used it to create amazing lino-cut prints and letters which are now displayed on the walls of the exhibition.
